THE GREAT WITCH HUNT

Double, double, toil and trouble something wicked this way comes!!!! This past weekend we set off for our annual trip to Salem MA to get in the Halloween spirit. Our dear friend Katherine and some of her family came with us. We met at her house early Saturday morning. Kizzle (aka Katherine) had rented a highlander for us so we would all make the trek together. When we went to pick it up from Avis we about died laughing when the office was this tiny shed on the side of the road. We got all the paperwork figured out and Col and I followed Kiz back to her house. Col and I got some serious whiplash as he learned how to use the tight breaks on the new rig.
When we got to Kizzle's we PACKED up the car with all our luggage and all 7 of us including baby and baby gear piled in. We were starving at this point so we decided to stop at DD. Poor Col's had to drive through order 7 breakfasts for us! There was no way we could get out of the car until it was absolutely necessary!! After that we were on our way to Mass.
The drive up was so nice. The leaves were gorgeous!! Fall in New England is such a site for the eyes. The GPS got us right where we needed to go and we checked into our rooms at the Springhill Marriott. The rooms and hotel were so cozy and nice.
The drive into Salem was quite a joke. The traffic was mad insane. Once we finally got to a place where we could park the parking lot closed after the car in front of us. So we faced the nightmare traffic again to go to the next lot. Once we approached the lot closed! We were going insane being stuck in the car. Finally we got a spot and got to go out and enjoy the charm of Salem.
We went on the walking night candle lit tour of haunted places in Salem. The weather was brisk but we all bundled up. Our little candles gave off a little warmth. After a fun day of shopping, dinner, and site seeing we called it a night and enjoyed the luxury of our hotel rooms.
The next morning we woke up and had a nice breakfast at the hotel. We once again packed up the car with all our stuff and headed into Salem to enjoy a little more shopping etc before the ride back to CT. Traffic was much more tolerable this time. As we parked in Salem we got to hear the songs of the church bells as we walked in the frigid air. We shopped around some more, bought our witch hats of course and other little trinkets.
The journey back to CT took us a lovely 5 hours! Traffic was a freaking disaster! There was some car accidents who knows where and it literally was a big old parking lot for hours. Finally we got off the freeway and hit a gas station to refuel our car and bodies. We got new directions from the locals and headed on home from there. We were soo crammed in the car with our bags and newly acquired souvenirs. I just had to buy this orange spice delicious fall smelling potpourri. By the end of the 5 hour carsick crammed stop and go car ride I wanted to throw it out the window. I must confess that even smelling it now is making me want to barf. By the time we made it to the CT border we were so giddy from everything we died laughing as we sang "you picked a fine time to leave me Lucielle" like a bunch of drunken idiots. Finally about 8:30pm we arrived at Kizzle's. We unpacked and piled out of the car and were glad to be home. It was such a crazy yet totally enjoyable adventure. We had such a great time. New England definitely does Halloween right! Gotta love it! Xo Xo!

Legend of Sleepy Hollow

"The chief part of the stories, however, turned upon the favorite spectre of Sleepy Hollow, the Headless Horseman, who had been heard several times of late, patrolling the country; and, it was said, tethered his horse nightly among the graves in the churchyard." -Washington Irving-

Legend has it, that she wakes up at night and
Roams the Cemetery. We thought we'd get
on her "good side".

Col and I spent a perfect day in the village of Sleepy Hollow this weekend. The weather was gorgeous and the drive exquisite as the leaves began to show off their vibrant autumn colors.

Driving into the heart of the village was so adorable. Street lights were adorned with pumpkins and Halloween decor. We spent the day at the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery where we saw the grave site of Washington Irving, and William Rockefeller. We even got to see the legendary bridge (not original) that the headless horseman rode across in the Legend of Sleepy Hollow along with the old dutch church which sits at the entrance of the grave yard.

After such a fun day we hit an adorable little restaurant right up the street from the banks of the Hudson river. We enjoyed the weather and walked the charming little streets of the village. Before heading back to CT we stopped at the headless horseman statue for one last photo op. What a perfect way to spend a gorgeous Fall day. There really is nothing like Fall in New England. Xo Xo
